Finding Pleasure in the Process
Hello! In case I need to reintroduce myself: My name is Bee. I’m a trans writer, and the author of two novels. Over the years, when I’ve done interviews about my books, I’ve noticed that there is quite a lot of interest in the process itself. A lot of my writing takes place beyond the computer screen: handwritten scenes all taped to the wall, for example. It seems impossibly miraculous that anyone would care about the strange little systems I’ve developed to keep me writing every day, but friends assure me that this really is of interest, so the time has come: I’m starting a newsletter.
Writing with Bee will be dedicated to sharing the techniques I’ve developed to bring more pleasure and play into the demanding, often lonely work of generating, revising, and restructuring stories. I hope you’ll consider subscribing. (If you don’t want to get further emails, please click the unsubscribe button at the bottom of the email, and please accept my apologies for the intrusion!)
Subscribers will get a regular newsletter about a specific element of the creative process as I put together stories and break them down. Some topics I’m excited about sharing:
What tools I love to use: from paper to typewriters.
Generating new pages, including prompts.
How I approach editing as the “real” writing.
Finding the will to restructure narrative.
Ideas about how to romance your writing practice.
Photos of my own workspace and supplies, as well as product recommendations.
My hope is that learning about how I make art will help you make art. Everyone’s process is different, and we all have something to learn from one another. At the very least, I hope you’ll find the way I work interesting.
By becoming a subscriber you’ll not only support my writing as I work on my third novel, you’ll support me in covering the considerable medical costs for my dog, Pupik.
